Evaluation Question - 2

Evaluation Question
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary tasks?

In marketing campaigns they frequently use different from of media to sell the film. To show audiences that these different forms of advertising belong to the same product (film) they use a certain style of font, certain taglines and of course the title of the film, to help make it clear that they are advertising the same film. This is important as they want their target audience to be aware of the film and to have this film on their mind when choosing what film they are going to see.

Throughout my marketing campaign I have tried to use similar conventions such as the taglines and font used, for example I have used the same font in both my poster and trailer to make it clear they both belong to the same film.

This means that when audiences are looking at the poster and watching the teaser trailer it is instantly clear that they are advertising the same film. However for the magazine cover I have used a different font specific for the magazine itself which has a niche audience. This is because the production and distribution company of the film most likely doesn't own the magazine and therefore has no say in the layout and font used in the magazine. However it is likely that the films distribution company will send magazines a package containing images of the main protagonist form the film that the magazine can use.

Although the image used in my poster is different to the one used on my magazine cover they both have similar styles and are of the main protagonist, therefore it is clear for audiences that they belong to the same film. The image on the poster is unlikely to appear in the magazine as the distribution company of the film have all rights to these picture and aren't going to give the rights to any publication to use these images.

Along with using similar fronts and images, I have used similar taglines for both the teaser trailer and poster, however the taglines I have used for my teaser trailer are a lot longer than the ones used on my  poster, this is due to the fact that while researching I found that the taglines that appear on posters for Noir films and films in general are shorter this way audience find it easier to remember them. To keep the idea of consistency throughout the different forms of media I have used similar words to make it obvious to audiences they are advertising the same film. The taglines don't give away they plot of the film, nevertheless they do hint at some of the films narrative drawing in the audience and creating a buzz for the film. Although the magazine cover won't contain a tagline in the same way, again as a result of the distribution company not owning the magazine, it does have a tagline that relates to the film, emphasising that the magazine will be covering the film.

I used the same billing/credits on both my poster and my teaser trailer, but I did not include them on my magazine cover, as I found while doing research it was not a convention of magazine covers. Alternatively I included cover lines that relate to reviews and features the magazine will be cover of upcoming films. Similar to this I included the same production company logos on my poster and teaser trailer and again did not put them on my magazine cover, as it is not a convention found on magazine covers.

The release date of the film is on both the poster and the teaser trailer reinforcing they belong together and are advertising the same film. The date of the Magazine September 2017 is a month before the release of the film itself. This is so the magazine can help create a buzz within the target audience, making them impatient and persuading them to see the film.

In both the teaser trailer and on the poster I have shown production company logos.
